Program Overview
This 30-credit certificate is designed to provide foundational and advanced training for individuals working as Home Care Aides (HCAs) or Support Workers. Using the Fundamentals of Caregiving 3rd Edition curriculum, the program equips students with:
- Person-centered caregiving techniques
- Core health and safety practices
- Effective communication skills
- Ethical and legal responsibilities
- Cultural competency in care delivery
Graduates will be prepared for employment in a variety of home and community-based care settings.

The curriculum includes both theory and hands-on skills training:

- Introduction to Home Care and Training Requirements
- Person-Centered Care Philosophy
- Communication Skills & Conflict Resolution
- Rights of Clients and Legal/Ethical Responsibilities
- Infection Control & Emergency Response
- Safe Mobility, Fall Prevention & Body Mechanics
- Personal Care Skills: Bathing, Grooming, Toileting
- Nutrition, Food Safety & Assistance with Eating
- Medication Assistance and Nurse Delegation
- Self-Care and Managing Caregiver Stress
Each module includes interactive activities, skills demonstrations, and end-of-module evaluations.
Learning Outcomes
- By the end of the program, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate professionalism and ethical behavior in caregiving roles
- Support clients using culturally competent, person-centered approaches
- Communicate effectively with clients, families, and healthcare teams
- Assist with daily living tasks, including hygiene, mobility, and nutrition
